The Disarmament and International Security Committee, also known as DISEC for short, is the first committee of the United Nations General Assembly (GA1). DISEC aims to address potential threats to world peace, also to enhance International Security. The First Committee discusses issues regarding military disarmament, small arms trade, and the use of weapons of mass destruction, etc.
In terms of resolutions, DISEC is not entitled to take actions such as forming binding resolutions, authorizing armed intervention, nor imposing sanctions. However, the committee still possesses a vital role in maintaining international peace and security, and its resolutions often propose valuable suggestions to the Security Council.
Foreign Intervention and the Dilemma in the Middle East

“Whose side are we on?”
This has been a recurrent worry to the countries in the Middle East, due to the cold war currently between the two countries, Saudi Arabia and Iran, which was the similar situation to the one thirty years ago. The contradiction of Iran representing a democratic government and Saudi Arabia representing dictatorship planted seeds of future conflicts. While Iran wanted to assist other countries to fight for their civil rights, Saudi Arabia was afraid that the collapse of other dictatorial regimes will encourage revolutions against the monarchy.
The situation had even worsened after the rise of the Arab Spring. On this topic not only should we try to tackle the dilemma in the Middle East, but also ponder over some more profound questions. Are our sources monopolized and views dominated by the certain media? And are the NATO and USA always on the side of humanity?

由於目前沙烏地阿拉伯和伊朗之間的冷戰，中東地區的國家一再地面臨這樣的問題，情況類似於三十年前的冷戰時期。伊朗代表的民主政府相對於沙烏地阿拉伯代表的獨裁政權，便為未來埋下了衝突的種子。雖然伊朗希望幫助其他國家爭取公民權利，但沙烏地阿拉伯擔心其他獨裁政權的垮台將促進反對君主制的革命。
在「阿拉伯之春」運動興起之後，局勢甚至進一步惡化。在這個議題上，我們不僅要努力解決中東的困境，而且要思考一些更深遠的問題。民眾的消息來源是否被壟斷、觀念是否被某些媒體所主導？北約和美國是否總是站在人權這一邊？
